SS12

I've been meaning to post my favorite Spring/Summer 2012 collections for quite a while. They've been sitting in a folder on my desktop aptly named "$pring$ummer", but man, have I ever been lazy lately (really, I've been horrifically busy). I figured it was about time though, what with AW collections already starting to roll out (Ahhh, fashion. Your seasons are over before they even begin).

So, without further ado, I bring you J's Most Favorite Spring/Summer '12 Collections-- arranged by color, in order from perfectly pale pastels to big, bold brights.

sp Samantha Pleet.
Samantha Pleet never disappoints, mixing earthiness and a sort of soft minimalism to create this really striking, but delicate collection. I adore the twisty geometric cutouts at the waist. Frank but understated! Rigid but feminine! Adjective but opposite! More here.

elkin2
Elkin.
I stumbled upon Elkin a while back on Refinery 29, having never heard of them.  And they've immediately become one of my favorite lines. Every Elkin collection is based off a literary genre, which is just ridiculously enchanting. This collection is a pastel wonderland, with more diamond cut-outs at the waist! Love. Also, their Fall 2012 lookbook is up and it's the most perfect. More here.

steven alan
Steven Alan
I don't think I've ever seen a Steven Alan collection I didn't like. The menswear is always nice as well [which is really a plus because menswear can be a bit boring to me sometimes (GASP, I said menswear is sometimes boring). Though B is really into the most superbly boring menswear and says he thinks Steven Alan is boring. WHAT DOES HE KNOW ANYWAY (admittedly, he knows a lot about menswear)]. This collection really reminds me of Maria from the Sound of Music. Which is a huge, huge plus. I'm not being sarcastic. More here.

carven
Carven.
Carven is really good at silhouettes.  They always manage to make attention-grabbing silhouettes (I always always look for underdone silhouettes), but they make them flattering, which is not necessarily an easy task. More here.

creatures
Creatures of the Wind.
I'm not usually that big on brights, but c'mon, this is just charming. I totally dig the kind of psychodelic accesories, the vaguely ethnic prints, and the drop waist on that yellow dress. It just makes me smile. More here.

So..uh, sorry if you've already seen all these, but give me a break! It's not even Spring yet, sheesh.

  1. We might have seen all these "already", but it is still refreshing the way you put it all together. I LOVE the recap. Samantha Pleet's collection is my favourite :) Plus i love that you added the muted palettes with the bright and bold.

  2. Yes Samantha Pleet's Spring collection is so good. The colours/the cutouts and twists. Very much agree. And yes a lot of menswear is pretty boring. The silhouettes never really change much beyond the trousers widths.
